Bernard Cornwell

The most magical phrase I knew as a child was “Once upon a time” because those four words meant a story was coming. They promised that I would be transported to another world, even to another time! They promised entertainment and excitement. Stories are humankind’s oldest way of exploring and of explaining our world and I can think of no greater privilege than that of being a storyteller. And that, very simply, is why I write; because “Once upon a time” leads us to those magical places where everything is possible.
