When I get an idea for a novel the fizz of excitement I feel is electrifying. It sparks up my brain and makes me feel alert, energised, and alive. A first draft can be boring and frustrating but there are moments that make my skin tingle and my heart leap—an idea for a twist, a solution to a plot problem, or the appearance of a character who changes everything. And the best buzz of all? Holding the finished book in my hands. I think most writers are desk-bound adrenaline junkies. I certainly am.
