Writing about medieval women is compulsive. Give me an historical character, often little more than a name, and I have a need to place her in a medieval setting, furnish her with medieval garments and mind-set, and then allow her to talk and interact with those who share her story. This for me is the excitement of writing, to discover the emotions that drove her to be the person she was. My satisfaction is immeasurable when a shadowy medieval woman comes to life again to draw me, and my readers, into her dramatic world.
