I write because I’m compelled to create and writing is the act that best satisfies the itch. It’s an itch that’s always been, though it took me a long time to find the perfect salve. First I would earn degrees in biochemistry and business, and spent twelve years working in finance and high tech, all the while attempting to placate my creative yearnings with a steady stream of continuing-education courses—painting, drawing, art history, interior design, even woodworking. Finally, I would, on a whim, enroll in a creative writing class and at long last know the contentment of setting a story on the page.
