At The Book Thing in Baltimore I saw a man persistently searching over the used-book shelves.
Are you looking for a book? I asked.
Yes, he said, without looking up.
What’s the title? I asked.
Not sure. I read it as a child and all I have is the memory of the book and what it meant to me.
I asked, Can I help?
I’d rather you not, because I hope I never find it. I’ve found so many great books along the way.
