The Canadian branch of William Collins and Sons is founded in Toronto by Franklin F. Appleton. Appleton began his bookselling career as a shop assistant for his uncle, whose former bookshop (now a Starbucks) is adjacent to the office tower that currently houses HarperCollins Canada.
