Thanks to my parents, I’ve been a passionate reader since childhood. I began writing stories at age ten, and from that first reading audience of ten-year-old classmates in Canada came a love of storytelling, and in time, a sense of the importance of both stories and reporting. Decades on, and with eleven fiction and nonfiction books behind me, I continue to write because the written word matters. Books describe worlds we know and cannot know, take us to new places, allow us to see from new perspectives, influence us, shape us, and ultimately create a personal and cultural legacy.
